Recycle Your Cell Phone
Here
Cell phones are made from valuable materials, such as gold, silver, and copper, and from several slow-to decompose and potentially toxic materials, such as plastic and lead. Plastic casings can take hundreds, if not thousands of years, to start breaking down in landfills. Lead, arsenic, zinc, and other compounds can leach into and pollute surrounding soil and water .
The Earth Gatherings has joined ECO-CELL http://www.eco-cell.com/index.asp a no landfill program. Their innovative program refurbishes and reuses 80% of the phones collected providing them to first time users abroad and local organizations such as Hospital patients for emergency 911 calls. The unusable phones and accessories are recycled under strict EPA guidelines by certified recyclers.
Earth Gatherings will be collecting phones at the Gatherings and throughout the year. Please call Joan at 503-866-6883 for more info.
